Trump claims he's committed to three September debates

Former President Trump announced at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort on Thursday that he has agreed to participate in three debates on different networks against his new opponent, Vice President Harris.

Trump organized the press conference as his campaign aims to make Harris’s media access a key issue. Previously, Trump had declined to participate in a debate scheduled for September 10 on ABC, which was originally set between him and President Biden.

However, during Trump's press conference, ABC released a statement indicating that both Trump and Harris had agreed to the September 10 debate.

Additionally, Trump revealed that he had proposed debates with Fox News on September 4 and NBC on September 25.

"We have spoken to the network heads, and everything is confirmed except for some minor details," Trump said, noting that Harris's campaign had yet to agree to any of those dates. "I look forward to the debates because I believe we need to set the record straight," he added.

Harris responded to Trump’s remarks on X, expressing her anticipation for the September 10 debate.

"I hear that Donald Trump has finally committed to debating me on September 10," she wrote. "I look forward to it."

She did not comment on the other two proposed dates.

Trump had previously cited ongoing litigation with ABC News's George Stephanopoulos as a reason for not attending the ABC event, despite agreeing to the network as a host after filing the lawsuit.

Harris's team criticized Trump for backing out of the ABC News debate, stating that the vice president plans to appear on the network regardless of Trump's participation.

In recent weeks, Trump had become increasingly uncertain about debating Harris. He initially stated he would "absolutely" debate her but later mentioned that he could find reasons not to do so.
