Stetson Bennett's football career took an unexpected downturn in 2023, leading to a nearly year-long stretch without participating in any games.
That dry spell ended during Sunday's preseason match between Bennett's Rams and the Dallas Cowboys. As expected, Bennett showed signs of being out of practice, throwing four interceptions. However, he also displayed the resilience that helped him secure national championships at Georgia, orchestrating a 13-play, 70-yard drive that ended in a game-winning touchdown pass to Miller Forristall with just 0:04 remaining.
Bennett's football journey is defined by experiences like these -- from joining Georgia as a walk-on, leaving, returning as a scholarship player, to taking most of his NFL rookie year off to focus on his mental health.
"That was probably the weirdest game that I've been a part of," Bennett reflected afterward, according to The Associated Press. "But I told myself today we're going to roll with the punches. My goal was to avoid mental mistakes and run the offense properly.
"There were some lapses, obviously,
but in the end, it was about getting the ball into the end zone or losing, and
I think everyone fought hard to achieve that."
