Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) mentioned in a CNN interview on Monday that she hasn't communicated with President Biden since he exited the presidential race last month, hinting at a possible rift between the two seasoned Democrats.
In her conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash, Pelosi expressed that although she hasn't been in touch with the president since his campaign ended, she wishes to do so.
"We’re all busy," she remarked.
When questioned about the status of her relationship with Biden, Pelosi responded, “You’d have to ask him, but I hope so.”
Pelosi was among those who, according to The Hill, privately encouraged Biden to withdraw from the race—a claim she has denied. She clarified to CNN that she did not persuade others to adopt that stance and never publicly advocated for it.
“I have hundreds of allies in the Congress of the United States. No, I had nothing to do with that. If you ask them, it’s almost insulting to them because they’re formidable figures in the Congress of the United States. They make their own judgment and their own statement.”
Despite the speculation about her role in Biden’s decision, Pelosi continued to praise the president.
“Look, I have loved Joe Biden, respected him for over 40 years,” she said. “I think he has made one of the biggest contributions to our country in the shortest period of time of any president you can name.”
Following Biden’s campaign withdrawal, CNN
reported that the president was "seething" with anger, much of it
allegedly aimed at Pelosi.
